:watches the huge fluffy flakes swirling from the sky:

:watches more & more snow pile up:

:sighs happily, and is glad has day off:




Oh, yeah. And I'm looking for beta-readers for the mainstream version of Severed Earth. This is the *mainstream* non-Journey version that is getting its final prep before shopping-to-publishers, and any takers have to be willing to give me specific commentary & feedback -- I have guidelines for such, crabbed from NaNoWriMo and Orson Scott Card.

I would really love to hear from the NON-Journey fans on my list. I need to hear from readers who haven't read these things before, who aren't going to simply say "wow, these are great" just because they like anything that has Journey in it (no offense, Journey-fan FL, but I've seen far too much fanfic commentary on how great a crappy tale is, just because it's about their particular fandom). I need unbiased viewpoints here.

(edit: I am NOT implying that "Journey fans need not apply"! Beta-read away, if you wish)

I'm probably about as unbiased as you can get ;-)

However, I'm not going to be able to do any reading or anything like that until I've got the diss finished :(

I am, however, looking to be free after that :-)>

Dissertations come first, Green. Which means...hmmm, knowing grad school...you'll be free in about 5 years. :P

Is that why we haven't seen your Glorious Presence on WoW, either?

I'm up at around 140 pages of material or so (double-spaced so it's not *that* much in reality). Ch 1 is my Intro / Lit review. Ch 2 is my sensitivity work. Ch 3 is flood and drought stress. Ch 4 deals with perception blocking and Ch 5 is my summary / conclusions chapter.

No, really. When I read SE the first time, I actually thought even though it was based on Journey you could name the characters Manny, Moe, Jack, Curly, Shemp & Larry & the story still would have worked. I however would suck at beta-ing anything because my writing/editing skills are nowhere up to par and I am way too enamored with the story to pick it apart

I'm not looking for a writer or editor, seriously (jrdnr's an exception -- he's talking about dissertations, not reading for fun); what I mean by beta-reader is not what most fanficcers mean by beta-reader. I don't need folks to pick this apart or catch spelling/grammar errors. I need a regular reader to give me feedback on things a regular reader would notice (ie, things that make you go HUH? :)). Seriously -- if you've ever seen the "Orson Scott Card" thing I send out, it's feedback on your experience of reading the story.

I'm trying to entice the non-fans on my FL because most of the Journey fans on my FL know my thought processes too well and might fill-in blanks that a regular reader won't. Bit confusing to explain.
